Just like in the previous generation of iPhone, the iPhone 13 is not one handset, but a range of four. Launching on September 24 will be the iPhone 13 mini , the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone Pro Max.

The mini starts at £679, the base model iPhone 13 starts at £779 while prices for the premium Pro and Pro Max handsets will start at £949 and £1,049, respectively.

iPhone 13 display

The iPhone 13’s 6.1” Super Retina XDR display is an OLED panel packed with 460 pixels per inch (PPI) and 800 nits maximum brightness. All previous bells and whistles including Haptic Touch, True Tone and HDR from the iPhone 12 return for the 13.

The notch at the top of the display that houses the front camera array has been reduced to take up less real estate. The screen is 28% brighter than its predecessor’s and uses battery more efficiently.

iPhone 13 battery

Apple says it’s managed to squeeze out 2.5 hours’ more battery life than the previous generation iPhone. It credits the extra juice to the new processor, the A15 Bionic.

A15 Bionic processor

Debuting with the iPhone 13 is the new A15 Bionic processor, containing no less than 15 billion transistors. The new chipset consists of a six-core CPU and a four core GPU, combining to offer performance that’s 50% faster than the competition (according to Apple), with 30% faster graphics.

iPhone 13 camera

The new handset houses Apple’s most advanced camera system yet, capturing 47% more light for significantly sharper images. The iPhone 13 has the biggest sensor of any iPhone, includes a front camera that now uses a wide angle lens and introduces a new, cinematic video feature.

Cinematic Mode enables a rack-focus effect commonly used in the movies. Automatically switching focus from subjects in the foreground to those in the background and vice-versa as the camera and subjects move, Cinematic Mode gives users the ability to create professional-looking films.

iPhone 13: Everything else

There’s no 64GB storage option for the iPhone 13 range. Instead, storage starts at 128GB and goes as high as 1 Terabyte in the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Speaking of the Pro models, they have longer battery life than their forebears and a new macro photography mode for microscopic photography.

The whole range retains its water and dust resistance ratings, ceramic and oleophobic coatings to keep the screen grease, scratch and chip free, 5G connectivity and Neural Engine for advanced machine learning.
