Bundling together your broadband and TV subscriptions can save you money, as providers offer discounts to customers who take both. But, with different broadband speeds and channels available, it can be difficult to weigh one package up against the rest.
We’ve done some research to find out which broadband and TV package is best, based on the broadband speeds and TV channels on offer, as well as cost.
Compare Broadband And TV Bundle Deals
Methodology
We compared each tariff in terms of its average download speed, 12-month cost and the number of TV channels it offered, scoring each category before translating each tariff’s total score into a Forbes star rating.
We also took into account factors such as contract length, value for money and whether each tariff included a phone service.
How to find the best broadband and TV package
While price is likely to be one of the most important factors in your decision, consider the broadband speeds you’d ideally like and how many channels is enough for you.
Remember that, to some extent, your broadband speed will be determined by your postcode and what services are available within it.
For example, while superfast broadband, capable of download speeds of between 30 and 300 Megabits per second (Mbps), is available to 96% of households, ultrafast broadband reaches currently reaches just 57% of households.
If you don’t live in an area with ultrafast broadband, the speeds available to you as part of your package will be more limited.
That said, the UK’s average broadband speed of around 71 Mbps is plenty fast enough to stream video in 4K. And, even if you could otherwise access download speeds of up to 1,000Mbps/1 Gigabit per second, you’re unlikely to find them as part of a wider broadband and TV package.
Similarly, not all broadband and TV packages come with sports or movie channels. And those that do often charge a premium.
What else shoud I consider?
It’s also worth noting how long a provider will lock you into a contract, since you won’t be able to take advantage of any better deals that come along during that time without incurring a penalty.
Typically, providers’ contracts for broadband and TV packages run for 12, 18 or 24 months.
Finally, weigh up whether the free extras that come with the package are worthwhile. If the package comes with a Netflix subscription but with streaming limited to 480p standard definition (SD), it might be better to get a cheaper package and pay for Netflix separately.
Or, if you’re being offered a wi-fi range extender free for three months, check out the price you’ll pay for it from month four, and whether you’ll actually need one.
