Puffco Launches The Proxy, A Sherlock Pipe Modular Vaporizer

It’s giving stoner Sherlock Holmes.

Puffco, the vaporizer company creating some of the most revered tech in the cannabis industry today, has announced its newest flagship device called the Puffco Proxy. The handheld vaporizer is now available on the company’s website and retails for $299.99.

Founded in 2013, Puffco offerings have made concentrates more accessible and safe, paving the way for vaporization that doesn’t involve fire or butane torches. Its innovations have long been hailed as a win for normalization, as its sleek look takes away potential fear that some new weed consumers may harbor over concentrates. The Proxy is the Puffco’s next step in accessibility. The Sherlock pipe shape is something consumers have seen before and know how to use.

“This is a completely new thing, the first modular vaporizer from Puffco,” says Roger Volodarsky, founder and CEO of Puffco. “It looks like a dry pipe, but you can put our chamber into the Sherlock and into other shapes. When it comes to making designs for it, it’s untethered.”

“We wanted to make something that was easy to incorporate into the glass scene,” says Volodarsky. “The Sherlock shape, for us, is such a great feeling product in-hand. It’s already ergonomic itself, it’s been around long, long before we entered the scene. It’s a very weird thing, you feel this nostalgic vibe when holding it.”

The Puffco Proxy comes with a 3D Chamber, an invention the company first unveiled in October of 2021. “It was originally designed for the Proxy,” explains Volodarsky. “We ended up launching it with the Peak Pro first.” Puffco says the 3D Chamber is the evolution of their original concentrate chamber, it looks the same but further optimizes heating on all sides. The 3D Chamber also boasts an Oculus carb cap with an air path that is intended to increase vapor when hitting the pipe.

“We wanted to give people something to build around that is seamless and easy to use,” says Volodarsky. “There’s no learning curve.”

The Proxy has push-button controls that use the same four programmed heat settings Puffco Peak users know well: Blue, green, pink, and white. Temperatures range from 450 up to 600 degrees. The temperature consumers want to use varies, depending on which type of cannabis concentrate they’re using.

But does it hit? “The max vapor the Peak Pro can deliver is higher, although the Proxy is getting damn close,” Volodarsky says. “I don’t know which one I want to hit more these days, the Proxy pipe or the Pro. It feels like a worthy competitor.”

“It’s quite large, you can put big dabs in there. I love the modularity of it, I have a bunch of pipe shapes made to fit it. The number one thing it does well is elevate the hash experience. When you use it, the vapor you’re getting, it’s like magic,” says the founder. The Proxy’s battery life is currently lasting about 15 dabs per charge.

It comes with a carrying case and Puffco’s proprietary dab tools. Beginning to roll out over the next couple months, the Proxy “ecosystem of accessories” will allow for more customization. The Proxy comes in a carrying case which features various different stash compartments for cables and concentrate jars. Puffco aimed to avoid plastic in its production “as much as possible,” they say.

The device is also meant to inspire glass artists in the space to create pieces to fit it, like they have for the Puffco Peak over the last decade. “We know there are going to be so many glass artists, can’t wait to see what they’re going to do with this,” says Volodarsky. “This is really a seed that is there to help draw inspiration, creativity, and innovation for the entire community.”

Consumers can expect color variations down the road, says Volodarsky, but right now, the company is more focused on the different shapes of the Proxy.
